Olive oil has been at the heart of Greek life and cuisine for thousands of years. Valued since antiquity for both its nutritional and beneficial properties, it has become one of the defining ingredients of Greek cooking and a cornerstone of the Mediterranean Diet. Rich in antioxidants, beneficial fatty acids and vitamins, Extra Virgin Olive Oil is much more than an everyday ingredient — it is part of Greece’s culture, history and way of life.
Your experience begins with a visit to the Mykonian Farm, where you will have the opportunity to see the olive trees up close and learn more about their cultivation and their importance to the Greek landscape and tradition.
You will then be introduced to the fascinating world of Extra Virgin Olive Oil through a guided tasting led by our experienced olive oil taster. Using your senses of smell and taste, you will explore the different aromas, flavours and characteristics found in selected Greek olive oils.
During the tasting, you will learn what the term “Extra Virgin” really means and become familiar with the vocabulary used by professional tasters. You will discover how qualities such as fruitiness, bitterness and pungency contribute to the character of an olive oil, while also learning how to distinguish a high-quality oil from one that contains faults or undesirable characteristics.
Beyond tasting, the experience offers an introduction to the important role olive oil plays in the Mediterranean Diet and explores the nutritional, health and beauty benefits traditionally associated with this remarkable natural product.
Informative, interactive and enjoyable, this experience is an opportunity to discover one of Greece’s most treasured products in its natural surroundings — and a wonderful activity to enjoy together with family or friends.
